Product Technologist

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Product Testing Management – 70% of Role 
  • Oversee the testing of Talking Tables and customer products with our global supply base. 
  • Work directly with our preferred testing partners to ensure our products meet the required regulatory standards. 
  • Collate results and ensure they are communicated internally. 
  • Ensure that our indoor fireworks testing and compliance are kept up to date. 
  • Conduct in-house testing where possible (e.g., candle burn tests). 

Compliance Management

  • Review product packaging to ensure it meets regulatory requirements. 
  • Generate compliance documents as needed. 
  • Ensure our products meet FSC requirements. 
  • Assist with EUDR implementation and support suppliers in gathering necessary data. 
  • Manage internal technical files to ensure they are clear and concise. 
  • Support the implementation of new internal processes. 
  • Gather and report data to third-party bodies on various regulatory requirements (e.g., plastic waste directive). 

Regulatory Updates

  • Work with external partners to monitor new technical regulatory updates. 
  • Educate the global internal team on upcoming changes that may affect our products through knowledge-sharing sessions. 
  • Update internal and external customer portals with compliance documentation. 

Risk Management & Quality Assurance

  • Conduct product risk assessments and record findings clearly. 
  • Highlight any product risks to the UK Product Development team during the development stage. 
  • Ensure our products meet the quality requirements of Talking Tables. 
  • Review samples and flag any potential quality issues. 
  • Work with the UK Customer Service team to address any complaints that may arise. 
  • Factory Auditing & Quality Control Management – 30% of Role 
  • Assist with supplier internal auditing and supplier management. 
  • Work with suppliers to manage corrective action plans. 
  • Visit sites to ensure both product and site meet TT standards. 
  • Assist with on-site product quality control checks. 
  • Ensure customer portals are up to date with accurate information. 

Who You Will Be

  • 2–3 years’ experience in a similar role. 
  • Willing and able to travel a minimum of 30% of the time. 

Skills

  • Product knowledge: ideally in food contact, explosives, toys, or other high-risk product categories. 
  • Up to date with UK, EU, and USA regulations (e.g., EUDR, GPSRs). 
  • An individual who embodies our core values. 

Key Attributes

  • Experience in both QA and QC, ideally within a sourcing office for a European or USA-based importer of consumer goods. 
  • Previous experience and/or qualifications as an auditor would be an advantage but are not essential. 
  • Strong relationship-building skills. 
  • Excellent written and spoken English. 
  • Experience working with major UK retailers. 
  • High standards of integrity and discretion. 
  • A team player who thrives in a small team environment. 
  • Self-starter with strong initiative. 
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Highly organised and accurate. 
  • Flexible when necessary. 
  • Friendly, approachable, yet firm personality.
